Though, the book focuses on the external difficulties and struggles faced by the Old Man. In real, it unravels the inner unending wars of the old man - signifying the unnecessary wars waged by the man against nature. The wars projecting out of their egos . The wars , that at last wear them out and the nature wins but the uncanny attitude of the humans - let the man driven mad by its own circumstances- made us believe , we can win all the wars and all the time. The hunt of sword fish symbolizes the satisfaction of ego and the movement against nature .Though, the true nature of the Old man , calls hunted sword fish as his " Brother" , from time to time , but the ego never let him to be in his true being- the being that rests in harmony with nature. All , what he can think of is showing off to the fellow men , his luck and skill . Even at such old age ,humans face such trivial enigmas. Nature ( sharks & Seas) made him realize , to not hunt what cant be brought back to shore. The boy characterizes the younger -self , the lost strength , agility and the luck of old man. Though , the natural forces led him to realize, the fact of being inept to fight the part of nature , which he is part of.
The resolve , to put behind everything , and the wishes of the self ahead , leads to destruction of peace. The peace , which the old man longed for. The peace which the old man couldn't found in the egoist hunt , sailing through the vast seas of consciousness. The much needed peace of the old man , rested on his abandoned shores , the shores of stability and routine. The wise shores , where the boats stayed , hunters relieved.
The book provides insight into the lives of all the ruthless hunters . The book provides , the much required shores for the readers to anchor their ships for a while and look back at the vast seas of infinite challenges and unending miseries. Thus, providing a brief moment for its readers to look otherwise.
